Coachella 2012 is a multi-day/weekend music festival that takes place in Indio, California at the Empire Polo Club.  The first of two Coachella festivals will take place April 13-15th, 2012.  The lineup includes headliners like Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, Radiohead, and the Black Keys.

Light Years: Conceptual Art and the Photograph, 1964–1977 runs December 13, 2011–March 11, 2012 at The Art Institute of Chicago.  The exhibit explores the movement of photography into the mainstream of contemporary art.  More than 140 works are on display by 57 artists, including Bruce Nauman, John Baldessari, and Sol LeWitt.

The Cadger family of Meridian, Idaho created a Christmas light show to the song “First Of The Year (Equinox)” by Skrillex.

Andrew Bird (composer/violinist) and Ian Schneller’s (sculptor/instrument-maker) Sonic Arboretum exhibit runs December 6-31, 2012 at the MCA Chicago.  The exhibit is a collection of horned speakers that are installed in the MCA’s atrium to “create a unique sound garden.”

On December 21 and 22, Andrew Bird will perform in the space while visitors explore the installation.  Tickets are available on the MCA website.

British artist Damien Hirst will be exhibiting his famous spot paintings worldwide across all 11 Gagosian Gallery locations.  DAMIEN HIRST: The Complete Spot Paintings 1986-2011 will be on exhibit from January 12-February 18, 2012.

Hirst’s retrospective is set to open at Tate Modern in London in April 2012.

Banksy unveiled his latest sculpture, ”Cardinal Sin” at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool.  The piece is a replica of an 18th century stone bust, its face pixelated with bathroom tile.  “Cardinal Sin” appears to be a commentary on the alleged sexual abuse scandals in the Catholic church.
